If February is hot at Sankeys, then March is quite simply sizzling. The Manchester powerhouse is serving up a full month’s worth of weekend action, with Recentes and Sankeys Fiesta continuing to blossom as the iconic club accelerates through 2013. The final weekend of the month is the Easter Bank holiday too, with four brilliantly diverse shows lined up.
The first weekend of the month stars young Dutch sensation Nicky Romero at Sankeys Presents on Friday 1st March, who has been given support from huge names including Calvin Harris, Fedde le Grand and Sander Van Doorn. He was named by MTV in 2012 as an EDM artist to watch and made no.17 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs in October too. His smash tune I Could Be The One with Avicii is massive. The following night it’s Treehouse and Leeds-based promoters La Loop, who present a pure distillation of the finest electronic music from Ame, part of the esteemed Innervisions family. They are joined by Detroit’s techno creative Jimmy Edgar, Pariah and Mr G.
Friday March 8th sees Recentes locking horns with YamaJam, pooling their skills together for a drum and bass blast starring DJ Zinc, Danny Byrd and P Money, with support from Breakage and Randomer. Saturday 9th ushers in one of Sankeys Ibiza’s heroes, with Steve Lawler bringing his White Isle sound to the Manchester HQ for a VIVa Warriors party. Sankeys stalwart Darius Syrossian supports, whilst upstairs in Spektrum Huxley stars, epitomising creativity and talent in spades, his releases spanning the deep to vocal house spectrum to stellar effect.
Friday 15th March brings tech master James Zabiela to the club; arguably the greatest technician behind the decks and effects, James crafts unique sets which always have Sankeys rocking. Raf Rundell and Joe Goddard – aka The 2 Bears – whose widely eclectic sound wins them plaudits across the board, also feature. And upstairs in Spektrum, Dyed Soundorom makes a very welcome return to Sankeys after the Apollonia Boxing Day party, taking the brilliant second room on a solo journey through house music. Then French electronic purveyor Agoria helms Saturday 16th’s show, with superlative support from Falty DL’s take across house, soul, funk, garage and techno, plus Lone (live), Christopher Rau, Brackles and Jozef K too.
Friday 22nd sees heavyweight bass-beating sounds from Pendulum’s DJ set, supported by Verse, Monsta and Culprate. Saturday 23rd witnesses Chez Damier at Sankeys, the iconic Prescription Records co-founder a man who carries the true soul of house music with him. Support comes from BrEaCh, NY Stomp, Squarehead and Sankeys’ residents Jozef K and Us & Them.
Then rounding of the month and entering the Easter weekend are four huge parties. Thursday 28th has guests to be announced shortly, and Friday 29th is a Hacienda Easter special with Graeme Park and Mike Pickering with guests to be announced. Then Saturday 30th is an all-out assault on the senses, a delectable feast of techno and house from the pioneering International DeeJay Gigolo himself, DJ Hell, Bulgarian experimentalist Kink playing live, Kris Wadsworth – whose debut album Life and Death has just dropped on Get Physical – and Greymatter play live. And finally the bank Holiday Sunday is all about 2ManyDJs. The peerless Dewaele brothers are in town to demonstrate their stadium rocking sound in the intimacy of the Basement, and they will finish the long weekend in spectacular style. Quite simply there is nobody else like them, and this special show cannot be missed. Happy Easter!
